Surrounded by idyllic coral fringed beaches
and lapping the waters of the Coral Sea, on the south-western
side of the island, Hayman offers 228 guest rooms, suites,
penthouses and a beach villa. The accommodation, restaurants,
guest service areas, marine facilities and operational plant,
have been designed to blend in with the natural beauty of the
surroundings. No part of the resort is higher than four stories
and throughout, shady ponds and gentle waterfalls thread their
way among beautiful gardens, spacious walkways and open air
lanais.
Hayman is a continental island of some 294 hectares (726 acres),
rising to 250 metres (820 feet) at its highest point. The resort
is located on the southerly shore fronted by a sweeping sandy
beach and surrounded by 14 hectares (34 acres) of lush tropical
gardens. Beyond the beach lies an 800 metre (2624 foot) wide
sand flat with fringing coral reef that is exposed at low tide
revealing interesting coral formations and an array of marine
life.
Hayman's flora is diverse and includes the Poplar Gum, Port
Jackson Fig, Moreton Bay Ash, Mackay Cedar, Whitsunday
Kurrajong, Grass Trees and various Wattles.
A variety of birds inhabit the island, the most likely to be
sighted including White Cockatoos, Painted Lorikeets,
Kookaburras, Stone Curlews and Kingfisher. From May to November
butterflies traditionally swarm in thousands within the confines
of shaded gullies feasting on the nectar of the Eucalyptus and
other flowering plants.
Guests may catch sight of Hayman's colony of Proserpine Rock
Wallabies and, during an island walk, experience natural
bushland and Australian flora and fauna. All are protected under
the Nature Conservation Act.
The crystal clear waters surrounding Hayman are a kaleidoscope
of coloured coral and tropical fish.
Hayman is also home to families of swans and ducks who reside in
the resort's lagoons. All are integrated into a beautiful
landscape, which is a blend of manicured gardens meandering
throughout the resort and rugged bushland into which guests can
venture on a fascinating island walk, to scenic lookouts and
exquisite beaches.
Climate
Guests travel to Hayman to bask in a
beautiful tropical climate, with warm days, year round swimming
and a relaxed atmosphere. Throughout the year, the weather is
warm and sultry with January normally the hottest month. The
winter months offer warm days with only a light jacket or
sweater normally required during the evening. July is
traditionally the coolest month.
